What Challenges are you solving in this industry

  • Cyber security of operational networks [CS]

Description of solution

Sasa Software’s GateScanner suite provides widely distributed and high-security networks – such as those of the oil & gas industry – with powerful file-sanitization capabilities that support IT/OT network segmentation schemes to protect their critical segments.

File-based malware is often the initial step by which advanced attacks, such as ransomware, are initiated. Content disarm and reconstruction technology thwarts these attempts by effectively replacing all incoming files with disinfected copies.

GateScanner cleanses all incoming files – from emails, USB uploads, computing devices, cloud-shares, API’s and web downloads – prior to their entry into the organizational network, effectively shielding it from any file-based attack.

GateScanner Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR) technology is able to overcome previously unknown malware due to its unique file deconstruction and rebuilding process. Operational content is extracted from the processed file and transferred into new, pristine file shells to produce decontaminated, functionally identical copy – in near real time.

CDR technology, initially employed by government and defense agencies, is gaining recognition as a technology of choice in content sanitization, and as a key component in the protection of critical networks.

What is the value you bring to your customers?

Oil and gas extraction sites, as well as energy production sites, are valuable targets for hackers whose objectives may range from operational disruption, through environmental terrorism, and up to to injury and loss of life for employees and surrounding communities.

In an industry survey from 2020 by Ponemon institute, two thirds of the respondents admitted that their operations experienced at least one security compromise that resulted in the loss of confidential information or OT disruption in the previous year. Cyber protection of these sites is therefore of paramount importance, and in many respects is as much a matter of national security as it is one of business viability and continuity.

GateScanner’s content sanitization technology is available in a range of module applications, covering all content channel routes between networks and end-points.

When applied as cybersecurity kiosks, and in conjunction with unidirectional data diodes, CDR technology enables IT security teams to safely allow the inflow of communication and software updates from portable media to isolated OT networks without compromising their security. Following implementation of GateScanner CDR protection systems, clients have seen a 99% decrease in intrusion attempts arriving through their content channels.
